Missed-call cost calculator
A quick back-of-envelope check: what are the calls you don't answer worth? Use your own numbers. The defaults are placeholders, not industry averages.
How the math works
missed calls/week × % real opportunities × close rate × average job value = revenue at risk per week. Monthly figures multiply the weekly figure by 52 ÷ 12 (about 4.33).
This is an upper-bound estimate. Some callers leave a voicemail and you win them back; some would never have booked. An answering service also won't close at your rate. It captures the lead, and you or your team still have to follow up. Treat the result as "what's on the table," not guaranteed revenue.
How to get honest inputs in 15 minutes
- Missed calls: most mobile carriers and VoIP systems show a call log. Count unanswered inbound calls for one normal week, including after hours.
- Real opportunities: look up the missed numbers. Strip out spam, robocalls, suppliers and people who called back and reached you.
- Close rate: from your CRM or job-management tool, or a rough tally: new callers last month vs. new jobs booked.
- Job value: average first-visit invoice from your accounting software.
Then compare the result against the services in the pricing tracker, or read the guide for your trade.
